Success Stories > 2012 Successes > TONKA
9-9-12 We adopted Tonka 6 weeks ago. The transition went very well because of all assistance, advice and support we received from Tonka's wonderful foster family as well as TSWR's President. From day one Tonka has become a member of our family-with mom, dad and three teen kids Tonka gets plenty of attention and lots of love. Tonka came to us crate and potty trained. We started formal training to take Tonka to the next level and that's going well. He responds to numerous commands and his loose leash walking is getting better all the time. Brushing his teeth and clipping his nails is a challenge but we're getting there. The vet tells us that Tonka is healthy, strong and at over 50 pounds, still growing. We have so much fun with this wonderful puppy. We visit different parks and meet lots of people--Tonka is great at making friends. He treats everyone with kindness, respect and occasionally a big wet lick.
We're profoundly grateful for what Tonka has brought to our lives. We spend more time outdoors having fun and at home his bed is in the center of our living room so he's always there napping, playing with his favorite chicken toy or chewing on a peanut butter filled bone while we watch tv, read or do homework. He looks at us a certain way when he wants our attention and one of us will usually comply with gentle tug toy play or a belly rub. We do training in different places throughout the day--some followed by praise or soft pet on his side, with more challenging accomplishments rewarded with special treats. Tonka likes to please and is proud of his successes. We've fallen in love with our big Weimaraner puppy--so smart, spirited, sweet and absolutely awesome!
