Buck
Just wanted to give you news of Buck. He just had his physical yesterday. He seems in fine shape and ways 75 pounds. They are going to monitor his back legs for hip dysplaysia because I told them he had a little bit of difficulty jumping up into my car (Ford Explorer). He and Platinum are getting along famously but Buck is definitely the baby of the two --very needy for physical closeness and affection (Platinum is also but Buck tops her in this category. A new beginner's obedience class starts at the end of this month and Buck will be enrolled. Also, I registered him at the Ocean Club where my condo is located on the boardwalk in Atlantic City. I have rented it out until August 31st and if Buck is completely housetrained by then, he will be spending some enjoyable days at the shore with Platinum and me. Thank you for bring him to my attention! I love him!

Koda
Koda, an almost two year old weimaraner was given up by his family because they didn't have time for him. He was home alone alot and became destructive...tearing up three sets of furniture. It got to the point where they felt a need to put a muzzle on him when he was home alone. For Koda's good they decided to find him another home that was more appropriate. Koda was adopted out to an active family who spends all their free time with their dogs. Koda has been doing great and really loving his life.
11-18-10 Koda (Ollie) is doing wonderfully. He's very smart, affectionate and a great watchdog. He has shown his intelligence in many ways but most recently, he let me know that one of our rabbits had gotten out of their fenced area and was on the wrong side of the fence. He stood in the window and barked until I came to the door and saw the rabbit. When I put the rabbit back in his little housing area and fixed the fence, he stopped barking. He knew the rabbit should be on the inside of the fence. He's kind to our other animals and is very well behaved.
We love him dearly and are so happy you found him for us. Best, Cindy

Hurrikane - 10 yo female
After finally getting out of the puppy mill she lived in for 10 years, Hurrikane found a new home where she learned what love was and was a constant companion to her new mom and four legged sister. Hurrikane was laid to rest at the age of 11 due to liver cancer. She is missed very much.

Abbey 6 yo female
It took Abbey a few steps to finally end up in her forever home. She came to the rescue because she was just to much for her owners to manage. At six years old, she is still one of the most active Weims I have ever met. She on more than one occassion wore out an 18 month old! Now, thanks to David and Rudy she is living a happy and relaxing life. She now calls the DC area home but also gets to visit the hills of West Virginia which gives her exactly what she needs - a place to run

Strasser now Jackson
11/9/09 - Jackson has officially joined our family and has settled into his forever home. The boy has had a long journey to us and has seemed appreciative from day one!
My husband, 5 year old son, 3 year old daughter, our mix-breed Morgan, and I committed to be his foster home in November 09. Our love for the breed made us feel that we wanted to help any way we could. However, after shortly meeting Jackson (Strasser), it was obvious he was a perfect fit for our family.
In June 09 Jackson (Strasser) was picked up as a stray in Mississippi and was eventually rescued by the Weimaraner Rescue of the South. It seems as though there was a significant injury to his left paw which resulted in the amputation of his 5th toe and repair of his pad. The Rescue League continued to care for the paw and to also have him treated for heart worm- incurring what I would assume to be significant expenses.
After being contacted by the Rescue of the South, Tristate agreed to help with foster placement of 3 dogs. At that time Jackson (Strasser) made his way from Alabama to New Jersey with the other 2 southern weims. With the help of volunteers, Jackson (Strasser) traveled across the state of PA and ended his long journey at our home in Mt. Pleasant, PA. We made the decision at that time to choose a name that reflected his history (and one that was much easier for our children to say) -- Jackson
After an exam, we know he is heart worm negative and his paw continues to heal nicely. He does wear a boot when walking on concrete and favors it some after exercise. Jackson weighed 76 lbs and we are trying to avoid too many treats so that he can lose a few pounds and maintain a healthy weight.
This is not an easy feat with 2 small children who adore him and love to show him just how much by giving him a treat every chance they get! Jackson, like any Weim, seeks attention any way he can get it! He enjoys playing ball outside and wrestling and running with Morgan and all the other dogs in the neighborhood. He walks well on the leash and even stays near when walking without the leash! He does very well with his crate throughout the day but is very excited when we arrive home! Jackson likes to sniff at the table and has on a few occasions helped himself to what’s there—an area we are working on.
He has been a wonderful addition to our family and we made his new home official for Christmas! Thank you to the Tristate Weimaraner Rescue League- especially to Julie, Jamielynn, and all of the volunteers who helped with his transport.
10/20/10 - Jackson is doing great! He still favors the left paw -- mostly after exercise. He wears the boot when we walk so we don't do a whole lot of that. He LOVES to play ball in the back yard though.
Our daugher is constantly putting necklaces on him, trying to sit on him, etc... He looks up at us like "REALLY?" but takes it in stride. I think he loves the attention any way he gets it!
Hope you are well and thanks for all you do-- -
Kiwi - 8 year old
Kiwi was rescued from a shelter in Maine and brought all the way down to NJ by a caring citizen who took a liking to her. She found a great family who loves to spend time with her which suits Kiwi just fine.
Jamie: I hope you had a great New Year. Just wanted to send you these two photos of Kiwi on New Year’s Eve, I think she is adjusting well. She has had a few bathroom accidents, but is getting better. She is playing ball with us, following me and Danielle everywhere, and is very entertaining. Many thanks for being such a great foster mommy. You can tell she is much more relaxed every day, as her stump is moving faster and more often than the first day.
Keep in touch,
Bette

Hollie 1 yo Female
Last year we lost our wonderful Weimaraner to kidney disease and knew we wanted to get another one so we started researching breeders. While on the Internet I came across a few rescue sites and TSWR was one of them. With so many wonderful dogs needing a home we decided would rescue one instead of buying a puppy. After having our interview I began looking at the available dogs daily that's when I came across Hollie. I read her story and knew we could give her a great home. I was somewhat apprehensive because I have never owned a dog with a disability, Hollie has spinal dysraphism which is a genetic spinal disorder. She bunny hops with both back legs moving together. Her spine is curved to the left so she runs sideways and sometimes drags her hind legs behind her. When I first saw her I had the same reaction most people do which is to think that she is in pain but once you see her move you realize she is not in any pain at all. She is so fast even with her disability. After spending about 1/2 hour with her at the foster home I just knew we had to bring her home. I don't think she knows that anything is different about her she is just a typical young Weimaraner that loves to play fetch, run around and be crazy. She is an amazing dog and while she loves being outside playing she also loves cuddling up with all of us. She has been a wonderful addition to our family and we look forward to many years with her. -
Marley
It’s been a while since we’ve let you know how Marley is doing. The short version is he is doing great!! He is without a doubt the king of the house. He is very active. We walk everyday, he plays in the yard (he loves to chase after balls) and he spends lots of time with the kids. He has found the garbage and he is very smart so even our attempts to latch the door where the garbage is have failed. We always know when he was in the garbage because when he greets us at the bottom of the steps when we get home, he won’t go up stairs with us to the kitchen. Of course he knows we can’t stay mad at him so he comes up a few minutes later with kisses and tail wags. Marley has lost a lot of weight. I have attached some pictures. We haven’t had it at the vet since the end of September when he had his shots (he has been very healthy – yeah!!), so not sure how much but we think he looks great and doesn’t need to lose any more. He does not like other dogs to approach him when we are walking and acts with what I call “fear aggression”. So when we are walking we steer clear of other dogs and most of the people with dogs in my plan have gotten to know Marley (he is somewhat of a star in the neighborhood) and they are very good about keeping their dogs away from him. The kids in the neighborhood love him and he loves all the attention he gets and will sit and let them hug and pet him for as long as they want.
Unfortunately we lost our Josie (our other weim) in March. She was 14.5. We miss her terribly. Although she and Marley got along fine, he never seemed to miss her. I really think he likes being the only dog of the house so that is the way it will stay.
We took Marley and Josie with us to the beach in November. They really enjoyed it. Marley was perfect for the 9 hour car ride. When we got to the beach house we walked him around the house a few time on a lease and he knew the layout of the three story home and which door to go to when he had to go out. He is really a very intelligent dog. He loved the beach and the water. He loved finding sticks and walking around with them and playing fetch.
Marley was not too thrilled with the large amount of snow we had. Even though he is a big dog he wouldn’t go out in the high snow (it came up to his chest). So we dug out an area in the yard for him and Josie. I think part of it was that because he can’t see, he just didn’t know what was going on.
His favorite things to do are snuggle on the couch with one of us, chew on his bones, play tug of war and play out in the yard. When he is ready for bed at night he whines at the steps because he doesn’t want to go up to bed himself. He loves being with us and if I am home he is usually always by my side.
He really is a great dog and we feel very blessed to have him as part of our family.

Mazie formerly May
12/17/09- I just wanted to send you a quick update on our Mazie! She's doing amazingly well! She loves her daily walks, gets along well with other (LOL) and is getting ready to go grandma and grandpa's house for her first Christmas cross country trip! She'll also be meeting our grandbabies for the first time. That doesn't worry me in the least, she loves kids! My husband keeps comment that she belongs in a home where she's the only "child" though! The "boys" are just such rambunctious pups that she gets tired of them trying to play. She is really a devoted girl and so happy for attention. She loves being brushed and her coat is finally starting to get a soft texture and shine. She seems to be shedding all the old coarse hair. I'm amazed at how much I can brush from her daily. I'd be bald if I lost that much hair!
I hope you and your family (both two and four legged) have a wonderful holiday! I finished wrapping today and Mazie decided to get right in the middle of everything! Oh, well life is just too boring without at least one weim!!!
Merry Christmas! Thanks so much for bring Mazie into our lives!
Love,
Jan
Update: I just wanted to update you regarding Mazie. She's really become one of the family and is doing great! For the most part she and the two "boys" are getting along well. She and Rowdy occasionally "lock horns" but for the most part are doing well. She follows me everywhere and does great on the walks with husband or me. She learns very quickly and I only wish that the two pups minded as well! I can now trust her when I'm working in the flower beds in front of the house (outside of the fence) and she goes with me. She still would like to follow every bird, rabbit, or person but when I tell her "no" or whoa her she listens. Shes also a turned into a real love bug. She loves to wake us up by jumping in bed in the morning and licking our faces! If we try to hide our faces she gets her big paws in on the action and tries to uncover us! I only wish I could have known her as a puppy or that she could tell me her history!
Thanks so much for all your help! I keep watching the adoptable weims but then think that 3 dogs are about all that I can handle and give the attention that they deserve! Maybe when the puppies are older, I'll rethink this!
Take care and stay in touch!
